Black Friday and Cyber Monday, are just around the corner and this year, the nationwide chains and big-box retailers are pulling out all the stops. However, instead of giving your business to the big names, we here at the Atlanta Small Business Network hope you get out into your local communities and celebrate Small Business Saturday on November 30th, 2019.
To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Small Business Saturday, we have come up with 10 of the Atlanta Small Business Network’s favorite local restaurants, retailers, and entertainment venues in the metro Atlanta area that you might enjoy exploring. Check them out.
Eat
Owned by the brother and sister team of Howard and Anita Hsu, Poncey-Highland staple, Sweet Auburn BBQ is always a crowd-pleaser. With menu items like pimento cheese wontons, bulgogi salad, and barbecue rubbed tofu, Sweet Auburn BBQ offers unique and innovative dishes along with your traditional southern favorites. A few miles to the west in Midtown Atlanta, sits the Atlanta Breakfast Club, a modern diner that serves American classics with a southern twist. It’s the perfect place to go if you’re craving some down-home, comfort food. Be warned, this popular brunch spot is a favorite among locals and tourists alike, so get there early!
Drink
The staff here at ASBN runs on coffee, coffee, and more coffee. To get your day started off right, consider checking out E’brik Coffee Shop in the heart of downtown Atlanta or at their other locations at Emory and in Decatur. This contemporary space serves some of the best coffee around, and its artistic atmosphere provides that perfect local feel. More of a tea drinker? Well, Just Add Honey has just what you need. This local tea company, located right on the Atlanta beltline, offers an array of thoughtfully blended loose leaf teas, gifts, and tea accessories. If you’re interested in something a little bit stronger, we recommend the newly opened Anderby Brewing just outside the perimeter in Peachtree Corners. Unlike a brewpub, all of Anderby Brewing’s beer is brewed on-site, and while they don’t serve food, they do offer snack items from local vendors. They also allow customers to bring in outside food like pizza, barbecue, or even a cooler full of sandwiches. Learn more about this dynamic brewery here.
Be Merry
Perhaps you’re more into activities than shopping. If this is the case, consider spending Small Business Saturday at one of Atlanta’s most intimate music venues, Eddie’s Attic, where you can hear singer-songwriter Ellis Paul. Or take in a show at the Aurora Theatre in historic, downtown Lawrenceville. Now in its 24th season, the Aurora Theatre holds over 850 events and entertains 80,000 visitors every year, making it the fastest-growing professional theater in Georgia.
Holiday Shopping
Heading back down into east Atlanta, the eclectic neighboorhood of Little 5 Points is home to the infamous Criminal Records. This humble yet impressive record store is an Atlanta institution. Known for its extensive collection of vinyl, retro feel, and events like Free Comic Book Day, a trip to Criminal Records is a must for any music lover.
The last two businesses on our list can both be found in Cobb County. In Marietta, Unapologetic Urban Gear creates clothing and accessories with a Christian message that inspires customers to live their lives boldly and with purpose. Moving more towards east Cobb, Roswell Provisions is a locally owned and operated community market and bistro. With a specialized selection of wine, international cheeses and charcuterie, shopping for your next holiday party will be a breeze.
