Welcome to another edition of The Female Founder with Co-Founder of the ASBN and CBT Automotive Network Bridgte Fitzpatrick. The Female Founder is a show devoted to helping women expand their enterprises to their maximum potential. STEM GEMS: How 44 Women shine in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and How you can too!

Today’s guest is a trailblazer in a largely male-dominated industry. The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), has historically been underrepresented in society. Therefore, Stephanie Espy has embarked on her entrepreneurial journey with the intention of rewriting the narrative.

MathSP is a coaching business that empowers young people to excel academically and enter college and graduate school programs. In addition, Espy is the author of STEM GEMS: How 44 Women Shine in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, and How You Can Too!

Inspirational journey:

According to Espy, “Since the STEM career field is underrepresented, seeing the lack of females in my high school and college classes, and then seeing women in my internship be a part of management or administration work, I asked myself why that is.” She continues, “I wanted to find a way to mend the gender gap found in all STEM careers.”

While discovering how to make women love math, her novel addresses 44 distinctive career paths that each industry has to offer. She adds, “I believe women and STEM aren’t seen especially in mainstream. When you turn on the television or watch a movie, they’re not prominent enough.” She emphasizes that women and STEM are less well-known, and that needs to change.

Highlights:

Espy believes that when you read the book, “the intention is that you’ll be open to a world you never knew existed.” By shedding light on the 44 mainstream occupations, they help young females make intelligent decisions about the best STEM path for them. Espy stresses the importance of highlighting a wide range of professions since there are so many careers under each umbrella field. Therefore, Espy adds, “With my book, I want to bring to the forefront the women that are doing phenomenal jobs in their mainstream STEM fields.”

“Until something is introduced or exposed, you don’t know what you don’t know.” - Stephanie Epsy

Advice:

According to Espy, “I think when you want to create a business, start by finding a community. Whether you’re seeking change, beginning a business later in life, or are an aspiring entrepreneur, you all essentially want the same thing.” Your goals will appear more realistic and attainable by creating a community. Additionally, she continues, “You have to have support and if you don’t already have it, then go out and find it.”
