American Express launches Sync Program, providing a new set of B2B APIs for fintech companies

To facilitate better communication between American Express and the technology companies that provide services to American businesses, American Express launched its Sync Commercial Partner Program.

The program, which began on July 25, offers fintech and software providers a quick and easy method to integrate American Express virtual Cards into their own spend management, procurement, and other corporate software solutions. Over the upcoming months, more business-to-business (B2B) payments and data features will be unveiled, including the potential for fintechs to incorporate adding virtual Cards to several mobile wallets.

American Express Sync is distinctive in providing cutting-edge application programming interfaces (APIs), powerful developer tools, and an easy onboarding process. Along with American Express’s scalable capabilities, strong backing, and membership base, partners also receive support from a dedicated American Express contact.

Todd Manning, vice president of the Global Commercial Services team at American Express, stated in a press release, “American Express Sync will give FinTechs more B2B capabilities and ultimately enable their customers to get more value from the platforms they use to run their businesses.”

With Sync, business and corporate customers can quickly integrate virtual cards into their expense management, procurement, and other business software solutions using American Express APIs, with ongoing support from a dedicated representative, like SMB-focused platform operator Melio and cloud-based software provider Centime.

Meanwhile, American Express and Plaid have partnered to enable consumers to securely utilize over 8,000 Plaid-powered apps and services without compromising their personal data. The new API-based connection, which will go live later this year, offers a more streamlined and secure sign-up process with financial apps. For example, users aren’t required to disclose their American Express username and password.

According to Danielle Cloud, senior vice president of enterprise data governance and platforms at American Express, “This agreement reflects American Express’ commitment to providing our customers with the security, control, and transparency they want when sharing their account data with financial apps of their choice.”
