The Atlanta Small Business Profile – Amy Saltzman, Alchemy Event Studio

This week on Atlanta Small Business Profile, Amy Saltman, owner of Alchemy Event Studio, joins Ted Jenkin to talk about her journey into the event planning and designing industry. Saltman is a New Yorker by birth but grew up in Florida. She moved to Atlanta from San Francisco in 1997, and worked for a few different event groups. Saltman now has over eighteen years of event design experience, and she enjoys getting to put that experience into action to create joyful and memorable events for her clients.

Saltman starts the conversation by sharing the interest that got her into event designing. She said that creating an atmosphere that brought people joy was the motivator that got her started in the industry. She fell in love with designing spectacular events and never looked back. Saltman says that COVID has not stopped people from wanting to connect and celebrate with one another. The challenge becomes making events safe and giving people peace of mind when they gather together.

Saltman then goes into the changes in supply chains and how hard it is to get packaging in the current state of the pandemic. Alchemy has now shifted its business focus to Hosted by Alchemy, a delivery service for dinner-party events. Hosted delivers everything people need for a party directly to their home or event space. Hosted has helped Alchemy make a major pivot during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We realized shortly after the pandemic hit that people had to either be on the offensive or the defensive,” said Saltman. “We were listening to our clients and listening to the people we respect most and realized that celebrations can’t end, joy can’t end, being with the people you love can’t end, but you have to do something that makes people feel safe.”

Saltman concludes the conversation by talking about the vendors they have partnered with recently. She says that the company is looking to spread support throughout a network of businesses who are trying to generate business during the ongoing pandemic. That support is so crucial to keep up moral and to continue pushing forward despite undesirable circumstances.
