The Hype: Big Wins for Atlanta at SXSW, Venture Capital Funding, and the AgLanta Conference

Hypepotamus is a popular digital publication that covers the southeastern innovation economy and tech ecosystem, and on this edition of ASBN’s The Hype, editor-in-chief Holly Beilin will give us a run-down of the latest news and events going on in Atlanta’s tech scene.

The HypeThe SXSW Conference in Austin, TX was this month, and there were a lot of showcases packed into just a few days, including several Atlanta startups. One really big win for the city was the success of iAccess Innovations. iAccess is a startup that provides applications for communities that have accessibility needs. The app helps people with disabilities find the top reviewed establishments that will fit their necessary accommodations.

March also saw the TEDxAtlanta which featured several expert speakers discussing a myriad of different, interesting topics. Everything from bio-ethics to child cognition, to the sustainability efforts of The Ray, TEDxAtlanta delivered countless, inspiring talks.

Holly also mentions that Atlanta has been very busy this past month as far as raising capital. Roadie, a home-grown startup that does peer-to-peer delivery, raised almost $40 million and continues to grow rapidly. Ionic Security also raised $40 million will investors like JP Morgan Chase. And Movius, a mobile software company, raised $45 million in another huge round of funding.

There is also a growing number of new entrepreneurial hubs and startup communities making their way to Atlanta. This includes Switchyards and The Lola. April will also see the AgLanta conference, an urban agriculture conference, you won’t want to miss it.
