A new Oxford Economics report reveals that TikTok is driving job creation in the United States, with 7.5 million businesses on the platform supporting over 28 million workers. The study, released today, highlights TikTok’s growing economic influence, particularly in helping small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) scale their operations and reach new customers.
TikTok’s Direct Impact on U.S. Jobs
The report estimates that 4.7 million jobs directly benefit from TikTok, including:
- Over 3.1 million workers use TikTok as part of their job, such as content creators and social media managers.
- More than 1.6 million workers indirectly benefit, including marketing, sales, and product teams leveraging TikTok for customer engagement and lead generation.
According to Blake Chandlee, President of Global Business Solutions at TikTok, “The latest Oxford Economics report underscores the platform’s role as more than just a marketing tool—it’s a catalyst for real economic opportunity, fueling job growth and innovation across the country.”
Helping Businesses Scale
The study also discovered that 74% of businesses on TikTok reported that the platform helped them expand operations and increase revenue. TikTok’s format allows businesses of all sizes to create authentic, engaging content, attracting new customers and boosting sales.
It is important to note that this new study expands on Oxford Economics’ 2024 report, which estimated that SMBs using TikTok contributed $24 billion to the U.S. GDP and supported 224,000 jobs across the supply chain. Unlike the earlier study, this latest research includes businesses of all sizes, leading to a significantly higher estimate of TikTok’s total economic impact.
The findings are based on a 1,000-respondent survey conducted from December 2024 to January 2025, covering businesses in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The analysis also incorporates TikTok’s business account data and U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
However, TikTok’s influence extends beyond traditional businesses. Many independent creators, entrepreneurs, and personal brands use the platform to generate income, grow careers, and support their professional goals.
As TikTok continues to shape digital marketing, sales, and entrepreneurship, its impact on job creation and economic growth is expected to expand even further.
