On this week’s episode of the Atlanta Small Business Profile, Ted Jenkin welcomes Derrick Meek, president and CEO of GreenSeason landscaping. A lot of people don’t know this, but the landscaping business is a highly fragmented industry, albeit a lucrative one. In order to remain competitive, and stand out in a crowded market place, GreenSeasons is approaching landscaping and outdoor design from a different angle. Improving someone’s property or outdoor living space evokes emotion and is a very personal thing. Derrick doesn’t take that responsibility lightly.
Another important thing to keep in mind is the work-life balance. Derrick says his family’s needs always come before the business. You have to prioritize and delegate responsibility to people who you trust. You have to surround yourself with a good, dependable team you can carry out your vision without you being there.
Derrick’s advice for aspiring entrepreneurs? Never let success get to your head, never let fear into your heart, and stay gracious. Leadership is about courage.
