Welcome to another episode of The Roadmap with Lee Heisman. Joining us on today’s episode is Joni Collins, founder of 1228 Wellness, who will take us through her remarkable journey of transforming healthcare with her unique approach to personalized, holistic medicine. From her roots in family inspiration to developing her innovative “1228 Protocol,” Collins shares the vision and passion behind her wellness brand. Tune in as she reveals how 1228 Wellness is not just another medical practice—it’s a movement toward empowered, root-cause-based healthcare.
Inspired by her parents’ teachings as lifelong educators and the birth of her daughters, Collins built 1228 Wellness with a mission to “educate, empower, and serve others.” With a mantra drawn from her family values and spirituality, Collins describes how her practice aims to restore and optimize patients’ health through a personalized approach that includes physical, mental, and genetic considerations.
The origins of 1228 Wellness trace back to Collins’s desire to break from traditional healthcare’s one-size-fits-all approach. Her business began in an Airstream trailer—an initiative she launched well before mobile clinics became a trend—allowing her to meet patients where they were. This minimalistic and mobile model emphasized genuine care over elaborate equipment, focusing instead on patient outcomes. Collins proudly recalls the reactions her Airstream received, often known as the “silver bullet,” as it rolled into communities to deliver treatments and aid, particularly to survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.
Central to her practice is the 1228 Protocol, a comprehensive wellness regimen that aligns with biological and spiritual principles. Collins notes an interesting “pattern” in her work: the numbers 12 and 28 repeatedly appear in her protocols and equipment settings, including the 28-day skin cell cycle and centrifuge settings for platelet-based treatments. The protocol underscores her belief in the body’s innate ability to heal itself, a concept that drives much of her work in regenerative medicine, particularly stem cell therapy. Collins explains that using a patient’s stem cells—harvested from fat, bone marrow, or blood—in her clinic can reduce inflammation, support recovery from injuries, and even address neurodegenerative conditions.
Beyond patient care, Collins emphasizes her dedication to educating both patients and healthcare providers. Drawing from her family’s teaching background, she offers training programs to help other practitioners replicate her 1228 Protocol. Collins believes that when patients and providers understand the “why” behind treatments, they become active participants in their healing journey. She affirms that knowledge reduces fear, fosters trust, and ultimately enhances patient outcomes.
"We call it personalized medicine in my office. Whether for Botox or other services, we take a thorough history and create a detailed wellness plan. If we're providing these services, we should also enhance health and give patients a clear roadmap for wellness." – Joni Collins.
