From Trailer to Triumph: How Atlanta’s Sweet Auburn BBQ Became a Favorite Among Foodies – Anita & Howard Hsu, Owners

According to the Georgia Restaurant Association, industry sales are predicted to exceed $25 billion by the end of this year with 50% of restaurant owners saying their business is stronger than it was two years ago. Two of these wildly successful restaurant owners are Anita and Howard Hsu, the brother and sister team behind Sweet Auburn BBQ in Atlanta’s Poncey-Highland neighborhood. We recently caught up with Anita and Howard at Sweet Auburn BBQ to find out more about their meteoric rise.

Sweet Auburn BBQIn this segment, we learn more about the inspiration behind Sweet Auburn BBQ, as well as how Anita and Howard got its first location up and running. Their first restaurant, Gezzo’s West Coast Burritos, laid the foundation for the brother and sister team to expand their restaurant group. Similar to Gezzo’s, Sweet Auburn BBQ takes influence from Anita and Howard’s Malaysian, Chinese, and Pacific Islander roots and perfects the Asian fusion BBQ concept. With menu items like pimento cheese wontons, bulgogi salad, and barbecue rubbed tofu, Sweet Auburn BBQ offers unique and innovative dishes along with your traditional southern favorites.

After getting their start at Sweet Auburn Curb Market, Sweet Auburn BBQ has now added another brick-and-mortar location off of Highland Avenue. Be sure to also look out for the Sweet Auburn BBQ food truck which can be found at events all around the metro Atlanta area.
